A hearty meal to celebrate a milestone in our 'blogging career'. Today's the day we submit our site to 2 search engines, Google and Yahoo!, at 10.28am for the search engines to start crawling our blog. We decided to give ourselves a pat on our back for what we have done so far.
Ju Shin Jung serves Korean Charcoal BBQ, or rather, they used to serve food cooked over charcoal grill.Today the meat and veggies are grilled using the electric grill at each table.
We ordered 2 meat (marinated chicken and unmarinated pork) at S$22(US$15.90) /200g serving and these will come with a spread of standard side dishes of the day. The grilling of the food is done by the staff of JSJ, who will come by your table and check on your food on the grill and cut them into bite-size morsels when done.
Just look at the number of side dishes they serve. Amazing. There is kimchi, lettuce with chili, lettuce with 'thousand-island'-like dressing, mashed potato (that taste slightly sweet) and octopus in chilli sauce with carrot and cucumber. There is also one serving of toufu with bean paste chilli and cold vegetable appetizer.
The lettuce with chilli may not look good at first sight but taste the best out of all the sides.
Each of us is served a shallow bowl of cold sea kelp soup and fresh onion appetizer, thinly sliced onion lightly soaked in slightly sweet soy sauce. There are 2 dipping sauces for each patron. One is a thin soya sauce, that goes well with marinated meats. The other is coarse salt with oil (smells like sesame oil), that goes well with unmarinated meats.
Leafy vegetables for you to wrap the grilled meat in, with some bean paste chilli; whole chili and garlic as well if you are game enough for it.
Complementary plain water and tea. The 2 little coils in the little dish are wet tissues. Pour some water onto them and they will swell to actual size before use. Try them as they charge you S$1 each.
The sumptuous spread for just the 2 of us.
Dessert is 2 pieces of heart-shaped watermelon and a small serving of sweet cold cinnamon tea with 2-3 pine seeds flowing on the surface, to aid digestion. Love the aroma and taste.
Kimchi Soup (Big) (S$14.00 / US$10.15)
As if the spread is not enough, we cannot resist but ordered a large kimchi soup. Each of us gets 2 small bowls of soup, and there is no other word to describe the soup but good.

Thumbs Up = Good variety of side dishes
Thumbs Down = We left too much carbon footprint on earth by not finishing the food
